LAMINATED MERBAU POST

Laminated posts are glue-laminated from smaller kiln-dried sections, which makes them straighter and less prone to twisting or checking than a solid sawn post of the same size — especially important for larger structural posts.

It depends on post height, spacing, and load (roof, handrail, etc.) — a builder or engineer can confirm span tables, but as a guide, 90x90mm to 115x115mm suits most standard deck and pergola posts, while 140mm+ is used for taller or heavily loaded structures.

Most posts are set in concrete footings or fixed with a galvanised or stainless post support/stirrup to keep the timber off the ground and reduce moisture contact — post supports are available in our hardware range.

We recommend keeping any timber post, laminated or solid, off direct ground and concrete contact using a post support bracket to maximise lifespan, even though Merbau is naturally durable.
